“Sonia and I have a long history collaborating, together developing the visual language for our images through conversation and material inspiration. While generally our focus is far more aesthetic — interpreting the concept of greenwashing as our creative prompt provided structure for a new set of conversations and decisions about visual representation and communication. We honed in on the idea of utilizing physical prints that referenced  the traditional visual tropes of beauty and cosmetics advertising. These prints are split, torn and curled to reveal their flimsy two-dimensionality and revealing a dark and rough reality underneath. As a series we sought to make a compelling set of images that visually narrates a serious and concerning aspect of widespread cultural pursuit of beauty.”
